County Match (U180) 2014-15: Sussex – Essex
In contrast to the Open team a fortnight earlier, the U180 team suffered a crushing defeat against Essex by 11.5 points to 4.5. We defaulted the bottom two boards and could only manage a couple of wins (well done the … Continue reading
County Match (Open) 2014-15: Sussex – Essex
In all my years playing for Sussex against Essex, we have always struggled to achieve much against them, particularly when playing away at Wanstead. It was therefore an excellent result for the Sussex team last Saturday when we defeated Essex … Continue reading
County Match (Minor Counties) 2013-14: Sussex – Leicestershire
Sussex qualified for the Minor Counties section of the ECF National Stages this year, a competition for teams with an average grade of under 180. Dix struggled to get together a team, and indeed we ended up defaulting a board, which in … Continue reading

County Match (Open) 2013-14: Sussex – Essex
I suffered a frustrating loss in last Saturday’s county match against Essex. After some mutual inaccuracies, my opponent blundered, allowing me to win a piece, but I didn’t look at the position carefully enough and so passed up on the … Continue reading

Sussex were soundly beaten 10-6 by Kent in last weekend’s match at the Mick Jagger Center, Dartford. Kent’s grading advantage told in the top half of the team, where they outscored Sussex 6.5-1.5.

County Match (Open) 2013-14: Sussex – Herts
Last Saturday saw the Sussex Open team score a narrow victory against Herts. We started strongly, racking up a series of wins on the bottom boards, before we were gradually pegged back. In the end, we just held on to … Continue reading
County Match (Open) 2013-14: Sussex – Middlesex
Last Saturday, I played for Sussex against Middlesex at Hassocks. In contrast to the first county match of the season, the result was better both for the team and for me personally. Sussex scored a fine 9.5-6.5, which could (as … Continue reading
County Match (Open) 2013-14: Sussex – Surrey
Today I played my first serious competitive game since May, in a county match for Sussex against Surrey. Unfortunately, I proved to be extremely rusty, and made a serious error on move 16, from which I was unable to recover.
County Match (Open) 2012-13: Sussex – Bedfordshire
Sussex managed to qualify for the Minor Counties this year, and were paired against Bedfordshire in the first round. The match was played at the Open University in Milton Keynes under what were very good conditions for a county match.

County Match (Open) 2012-13: Sussex – Essex
The recent county match between Sussex and Essex saw Sussex soundly beaten. I lost my individual game against Jeff Goldberg, as an over-ambitious approach backfired.
