Horsham Club Quickplay Knockout 2021-22: Mansson – Harbott
I was up against Peter Harbott in the Semi-Final of the quickplay knockout. In the end it was a fairly straightforward 2-0 win, although there were a few nervy moments in the second game in particular.
Horsham Club Quickplay Knockout 2021-22: Mansson – Broom
Last night I won an exciting match in the quickplay knockout third round, to progress to the semi-final. I was paired against Mark Broom, one of the strongest players in the club.
Horsham Club Championship 2021-22: Mansson – Broom
Yesterday, I played my first club championship game for over a year. I was up against Mark Broom with the White pieces. The game worked its way towards an apparently solid draw, as the players both ran short of time … Continue reading
Horsham Club Championship 2019-20: Mansson – Broom
Last night I played Mark Broom in the club championship. I gained a comfortable position out of the opening, but then my attempts to complicate didn’t bear fruit. A series of inaccuracies saw my position go downhill; eventually I ended … Continue reading
Mid-Sussex League Division 1 2019-20: Horsham 1 – Worthing 3
Horsham 1 scored a decisive 4-1 victory against Worthing 3 last Monday. I managed to win my game after obtaining first the advantage of the bishop pair, then an extra pawn. My opponent was unable to create any counterplay, so … Continue reading
Horsham Club Championship 2017-18: Mansson – Harbott
Last Tuesday I won my club championship game against Peter Harbott. Look back over the game I was rather lucky. On move 20 I gambled with a risky move that offered a piece for apparently good compensation; fortunately, my opponent … Continue reading
Horsham Club Quickplay Knockout 2016-17: Mansson – Harbott
My Quickplay Knockout Semi-Final against Peter Harbott was a tough encounter. In the first game, he was doing well when he made a horrible blunder, allowing an instant mate. In the second game, he had his chances and in the … Continue reading
Mid-Sussex League Division 1 2016-17: Horsham 1 – Horsham 2
As both the Horsham first and second teams are in the same division of the Mid-Sussex League, their first league fixture of the season is against each other. In previous years, there have been some close encounters, but this year … Continue reading

Horsham Club Quickplay Knockout 2011-12: Mansson – Harbott
Last night I won my semi-final match against Peter Harbott in the club quickplay knockout. It was contested, as usual, over two 10-minutes games, with sudden death if the match is tied 1-1. In the first game, I quickly built … Continue reading
Horsham Club Championship 2010-11: Mansson – Harbott
The season ended on a disappointing note for me on Tuesday, as I lost my last game in the club championship from a winning position. Peter played the opening rather rashly, but I didn’t analyse the position carefully enough, and … Continue reading
