Back in mid-February, Horsham 1 suffered an unexpected defeat away against Hastings 2. We lost on the top two boards, while drawing the other three games. On top board, Gavin suddenly collapsed in a good position when short of time, while I suffered a massive reversal in my game against Howard Tebb.
I achieved the better position out of the opening, and built my advantage from there. However, when I was in a strong position, I played a risky move, and, following my opponent’s reply, made a couple of mistakes that turned my position from very strong, to equal, then to lost. Several mistakes then followed as both sides were very short of time; my opponent then managed to consolidate his position and steer his way to victory.
I give the game below with some notes.
