As both the Horsham first and second teams are in the same division of the Mid-Sussex League, their first league fixture of the season is against each other. In previous years, there have been some close encounters, but this year the first team won comfortably.
My game was against Peter Harbott on board three. Although Peter can be a tough opponent, in this game we saw the downside of his unorthodox style. In this line of the Petroff, Black needs to decide whether to castle kingside or queenside. However, Peter has a fondness for keeping his king in the centre, which backfired in drastic style in this game. He resigned after 21 moves, a rook for queen down.
I give the game below with some notes.
