Last night I won an exciting match in the quickplay knockout third round, to progress to the semi-final. I was paired against Mark Broom, one of the strongest players in the club.
The first game was a tense affair with innaccuracies on both sides, that eventually ended as a draw. The second game took a dramatic course, as Mark managed to win a pawn fairly early on, but as it was a quickplay game and I had some attacking chances nothing was certain; this proved to be the case, as he blundered with both players running very short of time, allowing me to force checkmate.
I give the games below with some notes.
