Last night, I was up against Nick Warren in the third round of the club championship. After a couple of draws in the first two rounds, I was anxious to win, which I managed to do after my opponent played an unwise piece sacrifice.
I had the White pieces and the game started with the Hyper-Accelerated line of the Sicilian Dragon. My opponent managed to achieve a solid position out of the opening. However, apparently worried about a potential kingside attack, he decided to sacrifice a piece for two pawns to possibly expose my king in the centre. This proved to be a serious misjudgement, as I was able to consolidate my position, leaving me with a winning advantage. Although my opponent continued to resist, I was able to convert this advantage into a victory.
I give the game below with some notes.
