Yesterday evening, I played my third round game in the Club Championship, which this year is being organized as a Swiss Tournament. I managed to win with some good fortune against Alex Taylor, taking my score to 3/3 and a joint share of the lead with Anthony Higgs.
The game started with my opponent, who had the White pieces, playing 1 b4. He had played this a couple of time against me before, evidently believing it more reliable than the King’s Gambit, which he previously tried! I managed to build up a promising position, but as both of us ran short of time, I spoiled things somewhat, then gambled on a dubious piece sacrifice which fortunately came off.
I give the game below with some notes.
