In the quickplay knockout, having lost in round one of the main competition, I went into the plate competition for round two. I was up against another Taylor, Jonathan this time, and I managed to prevail fairly comfortably over two games.
In the first game, my opponent played the Philidor’s Defence with Black, while in the second my opponent played the Reversed Philidor as White. In both cases, he attempted a strategy based on not castling, which did not work well either time. In the first, I was able to built up an attacking position, before he blundered a piece; in the second, he ended up in an inferior endgame, which I managed to win.
I give the games below with some notes.
