Last night was the first round of the club knockout. I was paired against Steve Bird and had the black pieces.
The game started with a line of the Sicilian usually described as the Anti-Sveshnikov, as it is often used to sidestep that Black variation, although I am not sure whether that was my opponent’s intention. My opponent lost his way out of the opening, allowing me to build up an attack on the kingside, which crashed through fairly soon, securing the win.
I give the game below with some notes.
