Sussex managed to qualify for the Minor Counties this year, and were paired against Bedfordshire in the first round. The match was played at the Open University in Milton Keynes under what were very good conditions for a county match.
Bedfordshire built up a formidable early lead against Sussex, who ended up having to win the last four games to win the match on board count. Unfortunately, we were only able to win three and lose one, so Bedfordshire prevailed 9-7.
My game against Chris Ross was frustrating. I managed to reach an endgame an exchange for a pawn up, but played it badly, gradually running down my position from a possible win to a definite loss.
I give the game below with some notes.
