The most recent 4NCL weekend was overshadowed by the sad news of Richard Almond’s sudden death aged only 46. He was a stalwart of Hastings and Sussex chess, and a regular competitor at the 4NCL. He will be missed.
I was competing in the e2e4.org.uk second team, which was looking for a couple of good results to stave of the threat of relegation from Division 2. However, it instead suffered a couple of defeats.
On the Saturday we were faced with Anglian Avengers 1 and were soundly beaten 5.5-2.5. My game against Daniel Lindner saw me achieve an acceptable position out of the opening, but a few over-aggressive moves, culminating in a blunder, saw my position go up in flames.
