The second game of my knockout semi-final against Mike Forster was also a draw. The tie will therefore go to a quickplay playoff, to be contested at a future date yet to be agreed.
This time I had the Black pieces. Initially, the game turned in White’s favour, as Black played somewhat inaccurately. However, White responded incorrectly to Black’s attempts to gain counterplay, allowing him to gain an equal position. A subsequent error allow Black a difficult chance to gain a very strong, perhaps winning position; however, he was unable to find it, instead heading to a position where White had nothing better than to allow a draw by repetition.
I give the game below with some notes.
