Last Friday, Horsham played Bognor Regis away in the Paul Watson Trophy. In a tightly-contested match, Bognor Regis came out winners by the narrowest margin of 2.5-1.5.
I was playing White on top board against Jaime Wilson. The opening was decidedly in my favour, as my opponent was left unable to develop his queenside without material loss. I managed to maintain this pressure; following some further errors from my opponent, the game transitioned to an endgame where I was a pawn up. Unfortunately, by this point I was heading into extreme time pressure, and by the end both sides were playing on not much more than the increment. I managed to fritter away my advantage and had to concede a draw when even facing some difficulties; this, as Bognor Regis were leading 2-1, led to victory for them.
I give the game below with some notes.
