Horsham 1 finished the season with a comfortable 3-1 win over Crowborough 1 last night. I contributed with a win on board two against Jon Lawrance.
The game developed unfavourably for me to start with, as I adopted an inferior set-up against my opponent’s London System. I then made a serious oversight, dropping the f-pawn. Fortunately for me, however, by that point my opponent had already used up a lot of time, and he burnt up even more in deciding exactly how to win the pawn. This led to a scenario where my opponent had little time in reserve and was playing mostly on the 30 second increment for approaching 30 moves. This resulted in him eventually losing his advantage, as I managed to establish compensation (but no more) for the pawn. The game then went on as I probed his position, trying to achieve a breakthrough. In the end, he blundered, losing a rook, and I finished the game effectively.
I give the game below with some notes.
