Last night, Horsham 1 was up against Eastbourne 1 at home in the Mid-Sussex League. Unfortunately, the match ended in defeat by 1.5-2.5, as Mark Broom’s game against Maks Rozman saw a superior position turned into a loss in the endgame. I did at least have the satisfaction of winning my game against Rasa Norinkeviciute.
I had the White pieces, and my opponent played a dubious version of the Old Indian Defence. Although I did not choose the most incisive line against it, I managed to achieve a superior position. Further mistakes allowed me to establish a decisive advantage, which I managed to hold onto, despite (like my opponent) running short of time.
I give the game below with some notes.
