I had a rapid rematch with Ian Comley, whom I played in the Mid-Sussex League in my previous game, this time in the Club Championship. This time I was playing White.
The game started with the Ruy Lopez, rather than Ian’s customary French. My opponent found a good way to play the …d5 break, which gave him decent prospects. Unfortunately, he went astray soon after, allowing me to give up a rook for two minor pieces. The resulting position gave me a decisive advantage; I had to play carefully to consolidate, but was able to do so, and after my 42nd move, my opponent decided to throw in the towel.
I give the game below with some notes.
