Horsham 1 suffered a convincing defeat 1.5-3.5 at home on Tuesday night against Knoll Knights. The visitors won the lower boards with a clean sweep (3-0), so a win and draw on the top two boards was not nearly enough for Horsham.
My game against James Munday was a poor effort. I reacted badly to my opponent’s 4th move, heading for a Tarrasch formation with Black that my opponent turned out well placed to counter. I ended up with a weak pawn on e6, which I compounded by placing my pieces badly so they lacked coordination. In contrast, my opponent built up logically, and it was not surprising that in the end he prevailed as my position fell apart.
I give the game below with some notes.
